Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan is happy with the provincial budget.
His Conservatives unveiled a budget eclipsing $200 billion with promises to be back in the black starting in the next fiscal year.
One item not included municipalities were hoping for was a one-time top up to fill the tax revenue loss they say Bill 23 creates. Jordan said the province is looking deeper into the numbers.
The MPP says working down the debt and investing in education, healthcare, and putting more money in people’s pockets were focal points of the budget.
He says the province has made and is continuing to make strides in implementing the recommendations stemming from the Renfrew County inquest.
Community stakeholders have a different viewpoint though.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee told Lake 88 there was $20,000 allocated towards the recommendations last year which expires at the end of March, with no further funding or direction in the 2023 budget.
She said they’re “very disappointed with the budget and the lack of focus on any violence against women allocations.”
Lee comments on a different jury recommendation each week. You can listen to past discussions here.
