The long-weekend means another blitz by the Ontario Provincial Police. This one focuses on proper seat belt use.
The OPP’s Kerry Schmidt tells us buckling up is something we can’t forget to do.
Schmidt says its the driver’s responsibility to ensure everyone on board is buckled up properly. He says not doing so can have terrifying results.
Schmidt tells us that it’s not just adults that we have to keep top of mind. He says anyone with kids has to be sure they have a proper car seat, or booster seat.
The officer says there were 61 seat belt-related deaths last year, and so far in 2023 there have been nine.
