It’s been over a week since public service workers went on strike, crippling some government services.
One o fthose services most of us wouldn’t think about includes staff at schools run by Indigenous Services Canada, which have had to shut down.
That includes Quinte Mohawk School on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Deseronto, where 300 kids are out of school, including Danielle Brants kids. She says the strike has been tough.
She says kids need school.
The single mother says her children have spent the past three years in and out of school thanks to the pandemic. That has her and others in the same situation saying the schools should be deemed essential so they stay open.
We reached out for comment from Indigenous Services Canada, but they said a response would be delayed due to the strike.
