Smiths Falls Police Services Chief Mark MacGillivray provided an update to the police board about the Next Generation 9-1-1 system.
After striking a deal with Owen Sound Police who will help provide the required infrastructure for the far-reaching upgrades, the chief says they talked further and found some cost savings.
The province provided a grant of $560,000 to cover the costs of the transfer and implementation, so MacGillivray says the surplus will go towards IT support and additional infrastructure.
