It was always going to be the last game of the year at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre Tuesday night. What the Smiths Falls Bears had to do was make sure it wasn’t their last game of the season.
They did exactly that, when Owen Watson got one past Rorke Applebee 56 seconds into overtime to send 706 fans home happy with a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Junior Senators.

Watson’s tally was the first in the contest since the first period, which saw three goals in 2:50.
Sean James kicked things off with his seventh of the postseason, before Chase Lammi responded with his eighth.
Kyle Dagg answered a short time later for the Bears, before a Massimo Gentile one-timer tied things up on the powerplay in the final minute of the first period.
From there it was a battle of the goaltenders. Both Applebee and Will McEvoy made key saves throughout the final two periods with both the Bears and Junior Senators taking turns applying pressure.
McEvoy turned aside 36 shots, while Applebee recorded 27 saves.
Game 7 takes place at the Fred Barrett Arena Friday night (May 5), with puck drop slated for 7:10.
