The town of Smiths Falls is reminding residents of the by-law which prohibits streets and sidewalks to be used for recreational purposes.
That means playing basketball and street hockey is not allowed. Walking and cycling does not qualify as recreational purposes under the by-law.
In a public notice posted to its social media, the town said sports equipment left unattended create a safety hazard, interfere with maintenance operations and obstruct access for emergency services, and could be removed at the discretion of Town By-law, Public Works, Fire or Police Department staff.
