Smiths Falls is extending its 2022 patio by-law for the 2023 season before consulting with the local chamber and downtown BIA on creating a new one for future years.
Councillor Chris McGuire says from what he’s seen, the town waiving the fees has been more of an economic driver than having them in place for businesses.
The town made several amendments to the 2013 patio by-law in 2020 while indoor dining was not an option, a move Councillor John Brennan was touting.
One tweak will be made in the 2023 by-law, that being patios are allowed to stay open until 11pm during the weekends of festivals or events instead of 9.
