The Countdown Public Art Project pebble mosaic honouring victims and survivors of gender based violence has been unveiled in Smiths Falls.
Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says the beautiful piece of art, that was created by community members under the guidance of Redefine Arts, is a symbol of the fight to end intimate partner violence in Smiths Falls and beyond.
Redefine Arts creates and presents interdisciplinary and community grounded performance, installations and public artworks that advance disability justice, collaborative processes, and artistic innovation. Lee says they have been clear about what they want the mosaics to represent in the community.

Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee addresses those in attendance to witness the unveiling.
The December 2021 femicide of Chantal Lebrun in the town was on the minds of those who were in attendance. She was remembered during the unveiling, demonstrating how the Mosaic provides a symbol to keep the memories of all victims alive.
But Lee was quick to point out that the site can also host joyful celebrations.
This is the third such mosaic to be installed in Lanark County. The others are in Mississippi Mills and Carleton Place. You can view the official unveiling below.
