Fire bans have been issued by communities across Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville as dry conditions persist and wildfires approach the region.
The closest fire is in Calabogie. A large swath of land to the north of Highway 7 and to the west of Westport has been deemed high risk for forest fires by the Provincial Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Many communities have issued burn bans. Please before you strike the match or flick the lighter, check with your town hall or municipality’s office to find out if burning is allowed. In many cases you will need a permit.
Meantime, Lanark County has shared a post from “Emergency Ready in Canada” about Wildfire Preparedness. Those who live in areas affected by the fires are asked to have an Emergency Plan in place, and an Emergency Kit at the ready.
They have also shared a resource which is available by tapping or clicking this text block.
