This weekend is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
They’re putting on their annual walk for guide dogs and hope to raise $1.4 million across the country.
Communications Manager Maria Galindo says pairing a guide dog with their human is a detailed process, because it’s important they get it right.
Dog guides help those with vision or hearing impairment, medical and physical disabilities, seizures, diabetes, trauma or autism.
Galindo says it costs about $35,000 for the raising, training, and caring of each dog before they’re ready for work, which is why fundraisers like this one are integral to what they do.
The Athens walk, takes place Sunday morning at Centennial Park with registration at 11am.
