In a significant development following our previous report, a 87-year-old man from Elgin has been arrested and charged by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for allegedly failing to comply with a court order.
Earl Lake, who had previously been prohibited from owning animals on his property in Rideau Lakes Township back in 2014, now faces charges under the Criminal Code.
A joint investigation conducted by the OPP and Animal Welfare Services led to the removal of dogs from Lake’s property. The charges were brought forth as a result of this collaborative effort.
Following his arrest, Lake has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court next month to address the charges.
It is worth noting that Lake had previously been convicted of multiple counts of animal cruelty in 2014.
