The film and television industry’s writers strike continues in the US, but what does that mean for Canada, and our local film industry?
Christmas movies are a big draw, with many filmed in our listening area. Their crews, and often fans, can be a bit of a boost for local business and tourism.
We asked Character’s Talent Agent and film producer Ryan Goldhar if the strike would affect shoots this year.
More and more films are being shot north of the border outside of Toronto and Vancouver. Film crews have been seen shooting major productions in many of the towns in our listening area.
Goldhar says that’s by design.
Also up for contract talks soon are directors and actors.
A big sticking point in all negotiations is the use of Artificial Intelligence, or AI in the industry, potentially replacing talent.
