Mississippi Mills council is addressing worries in the municipality about perceived increases in the crime severity index in Almonte.
Mayor Christa Lowry says while Council is on its July break, staff will be preparing some reports to assess the current situation and make suggestions moving forward.
Lowry says that data is presently available, but its like a scavenger hunt to find it.
The most recent statistics show 286 “actual incidents,” in Almonte in 2021, the most recent year available. That’s down up two from the previous year but down from a five-year high 320 in 2019.
The Mayor says council would like an update on when the restructured Lanark County Police Services Board may eventually be rolled out, and how feasible it might be to locate an additional OPP detachment office in Almonte.
The final piece of the policing puzzle is the temptation to explore a Mississippi Mills Police Service option.
