Lanark County council received an update regarding 75 Harvey Street after an April fire displaced 26 rent-geared-to-income residents.
No residents impacted by the blaze are presently unhoused, and local groups have chipped in with various fundraisers, but conditions aren’t ideal for the long-term for most.
Director of Social Services Emily Hollington says there’s still lots of work to do before residents can move back in.
Hollington understands the frustration by those displaced, but they ask for continued patience.
She says the insurers responsible are waiting on an engineering report before they can work on the property, and that report is about a month away.
At that point Town of Perth staff can look at partial move-ins for 11 lower level residents by the fall.
They’ve also not received a report yet from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.
