Former SFPS Chief of Police Mark MacGillivray and New Chief Jodi Empey appear together in this file photo.
After 36 years, Smiths Falls Police Service Chief Mark MacGillivray is retiring from the service. He has given so much to the community in that time and doesn’t plan to stop.
Our Brian Turner welcomed the Chief into our studios for In Focus. The Chief, who was originally from Ottawa, told us he knew the town of Smiths Falls was a great fit from the start.
The Chief says he’ll always be around town, most importantly spending time with his family, something he says the job sometimes curbed. His family always understood though.
He also says he will continue his association with the police.
He is grateful to the people of the town that he’s called home for closing in on four decades. The relationships relationships he’s made along the way with fellow officers are very important to him, and he plans to keep them going.
MacGillivray plans to stay on until the end of the year. Then he’ll start the well-deserved next chapter of his life.
