Smiths Falls council didn’t feel the municipal heritage committees’ report and subsequent recommendation to preserve the fire-impacted heritage water treatment plant was fully fleshed out, so a decision on its fate wasn’t made at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting.
The plant caught fire in May and reports have since been done to assess damage and study the options of preserving the site or demolishing it to make way for a new project.
Councillor Chris McGuire said there’s no question the property has heritage value to the town.
Councillor Peter McKenna shared the sentiment held around the horseshoe that their report didn’t have enough information for council to make that call.
They accepted the report for information and hope to make a decision in two weeks.
