Indigenous leaders are demanding that the province reinstate protections on land it has removed from the Greenbelt.
The Chiefs of Ontario have voted unanimously to oppose the land swap, which they say violates the Williams Treaties that were finally settled in 2018.
They also say they weren’t consulted on the move.
Earlier this month, the auditor general found the Ford government gave preferential treatment to certain land developers when they
decided to open up the protected Greenbelt to build houses.
Many opposition members and indigenous leaders are calling on local MPP and Minister of Housing Steve Clark to resign.
Clark has thus far refused.
