Canada’s 7th oldest golf course won’t be given heritage status and is subject to development.
Perth’s director of development services Johanna Bowes said the province’s Bill 23 created new limitations to a municipality’s ability to declare a property as having heritage status.
The bill requires all applications made since the start of this year be listed on the heritage roll as land intended to be designated.
Because that failed to happen, the town faces a 90 day window to undertake a series of steps to potentially reverse the decision, which Bowes said is not nearly enough time.
The land owners, Caivan development, has plans to keep the front 9 holes open and could close the course altogether after the end of next year’s season in their mission to build more homes.
