Big changes are coming when it comes to how health units operate in Ontario.
Board of Health Chairman of the Leeds Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit Peter McKenna provided an update of the mandates and future changes the province is working towards for health units.
Additionally, the province expects health units to discuss mergers with their neighbours to have in place in 2025.
The government wants to see health units cover a minimum of 500,000 people.
The LGLHU currently serves about 170,000, so they’ll likely look to merge Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington Public Health.
McKenna says they have a good working relationship with KLF&A so the discussions shouldn’t be a problem, ahead of what would be a massive logistical task.
