The Lanark Rural Transportation Working Group sought support from the Community Services Committee to conduct a feasibility study to explore the idea of county-wide public transportation.
Executive Director Marilyn Bird said they’d essentially like the study to be a follow up from a 2016 report which identified challenges residents face without their own transportation, and come up with potential solutions.
She says the way public transportation is being approached in smaller communities has changed.
But some councillors, like Bill King, pointed out the world is quite different now than it was in 2016, so the data and perhaps even public opinion has shifted.
King, among other councillors, said he’s not opposed to looking into the matter, but the study must include updated information and input from the rural parts of the county to see if it’s a worthwhile venture.
The committee received the presentation as information.
