Two-thirds of Metroland Media Group employees were laid off Friday, September 15, after the company sought bankruptcy protection, marking another dark day in Canadian news media.
Metroland says they will no longer print their weekly community newspapers across Ontario and move to an online-only model.
That includes local publications like The Perth Courier and The Smiths Falls Record News.
605 employees including 104 unionized staffers and 68 journalists have been laid off, the rest were non-unionized job categories.
