Brockville Braves owner and GM Dustin Traylen joined Lake 88 to discuss the newly formed North American Hockey Association, set to begin its first season.
The NAHA features eight teams, including Smiths Falls, participating in the new league which stands independent of Hockey Canada and its accompanying rules.
Traylen, who sits on the NAHA board of governors, says player recruitment has become difficult under what he feels is strict guidelines set by Hockey Eastern Ontario, and this league will allow for more freedom.
The Junior Braves of the NAHA are taking over the Wednesday night home slot once occupied by the EOJHL Tikis, who aren’t participating this season pending a sale.
Traylen wants to clarify that this is a separate undertaking from the CCHL Braves.
With the season expected to begin this month, the NAHA doesn’t appear to have an online presence whatsoever in a league website, schedule, rosters, or any social media accounts.
