The recent agreement between bus companies and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario’s provided stability for the next four years, but the Upper Canada District School Board already anticipates 2027 to be a challenging year.
The groups will be renegotiating fresh terms at the same time the UCDSB expect a transportation funding decrease from the new provincial formula.
Executive Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer Jeremy Hobbs said the transitional funding won’t provide much help.
About 70% of UCDSB students are transported to school daily, and they have the 12th highest per-student expense in the province of the 72 school boards.
Ward 8 Trustee David McDonald said it’s best to brace themselves.
Transportation fees this year for UCDSB is about $36 million with a projected rise to $39 million by 2026.
