Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will not be going on strike.
Just over 78% of members voted in favour of a deal with the province to go through binding arbitration until a contract agreement can be reached, avoiding potential strike action.
Minister of Education Stephen Lecce said in a press conference Thursday morning, keeping children in class is always their goal.
If no collective agreement is reached by October 27th, the two sides have agreed to bring in a third party to resolve any outstanding issues.
Lecce later urged the remaining teaching union’s negotiating for new contracts to follow the lead of the OSSTF.
