The former Kitten Mill building in the Village of Lanark is set for demolition.
Lanark Highlands council has deemed the building structurally unsafe, leading to the decision to demolish parts of the building, and fixing others before the end of the month.
The building has seen better days, with the front portion of the roof having completely fallen in due to deterioration.
A report from last month says the building condition could be hazardous to the health and safety for those outside the property and for those who gain access to the site.
In 2021 residents gathered to discuss potential restoration of the famous mill, eventually leading to the formation of The Lanark Heritage Preservation Society, but nothing materialized.
Property owner Andrew Robertson’s been tasked to demolish the property by October 19th.
