Not so fast.
Residents of Mary Street will be at Perth Town Council tomorrow night trying to reverse the decision to remove traffic-calmin measures that have just been put in place as part of the months-long revitalization of the street.
Spokesperson for the residents Paul Joyce says, enough’s enough.
Joyce and his group say they agree with the bump outs created by the newly-poured curbs. They are an effort to slow traffic coming on to and off of their street from Wilson at one end and Drummond at the other.
Joyce also provided the following statement:
“The road reconstruction of Mary St. was nearing completion when Town Council abruptly put a stop to the work on October 3rd. They had apparently received one complaint about the new traffic-calming curbs, which had already been installed. After a hasty vote, with no thought given to the opinion of other residents, Council voted to tear out and replace the new curbs, at vast public expense. My neighbours and I had been well informed about the details of the project well before construction began, and we feel that the new curbs will make our street safer and calmer for motorists and pedestrians. We will appear before Council on October 17 to ask them to reconsider the stop-work order and recommence work on our street immediately.”
Council votes again on the matter tomorrow evening.
