The focus remains on bettering mental health education and support system for schools across the province and that includes the Upper Canada District School Board.
Mental Health Lead Lisa Livingston presented a report regarding their literacy modules for Grade 7 and 8 students at the latest board meeting.
She says the survey the board issued last year showed students want to learn more about mental health, but few feel comfortable talking about it.
Livingston says teachers are in a position of influence on students lives, but they aren’t expected to know everything.
Junior high school teachers that teach health or physical education are offered professional development opportunities focused on mental health education.
