Education Minister Stephen Lecce says 100% of parents agree that students should stay in school.
The comments come in the wake of the announcement that Public Elementary Teachers in the province have voted 95% in favour of strike action. This would affect students in the Upper Canada District School Board locally.
Lecce didn’t hide his frustration when speaking with reporters about the situation.
But he also says that he hasn’t given up hope.
Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario President Karen Brown says they’ve been working for over a year without a contract and their patience has run out.
She adds that a strike mandate will add pressure on the government to reach a contract deal with teachers at the bargaining table. Negotiations are set to continue this month.
Lake 88 will be watching this story closely for local parents who may have to scramble for child care should teachers walk off the job.
