Lanark County Councillor Rob Rainer doesn’t think their Climate Action Plan goes far enough.
In the recent Public Works committee meeting, Rainer explained his reservations with the community emission reduction target at 10% below the 2019 rates by 2030.
He feels the climate change crisis is far too severe to aim what he feels is too low.
The county hired a consultant that said 10% is an attainable target given 2030 is only seven years away, and the large size of Lanark County contributes to high transportation emissions.
Rainer says people still aren’t taking the fight seriously.
Council approved the plan as-is, with a review planned every two years instead of the original four.
