The Upper Canada District School Board and Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario are taking some extra precautions today at area schools.
In a notice sent to parents, They were told by police that there is a potential threat against French Catholic Schools in some areas of Ontario today. Police are investigating the matter.
The OPP confirmed in a release that they are investigating multiple bomb threats across parts of Northern and Eastern Ontario in which multiple schools under multiple school boards and other facilities were targeted. Those who made the threats demanded money. No devices have been found on site according to the OPP. Reports had said the threats involved bombs.
As a precaution many targeted schools and facilities were closed.
Parents are encouraged to contact their schools or school boards for more information.
The OPP also says the public is always encouraged to report any suspicious activity that could be a risk to public safety.
The Upper Canada DSB says there hasn’t been a threat to any of their schools but out of an abundance of caution there will be extra vigilance and safety measures in place. They do note that normal dismissal and pick up routines will take place. The Board says the safety and well-being of students is a top priority.
The Catholic District School Board of EO also said in a statement to parents that their board was not targeted. But made the move to hold and secure out of an abundance of caution.
