Radon Action Month is now underway, and the Health Unit is tying it to lung cancer awareness month.
Radon is a colourless, odourless radioactive gas that seeps into our homes after forming when uranium breaks down in soil, rock and water. The highest levels of radon in homes occur in the cooler months as we seal up our homes for the winter.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li, says radon exposure is the second highest cause of lung cancer in Ontario and the risk gets higher if you’re a smoker.
And the doctor shared some shocking data
In case you missed that, Dr. Li says 850 Ontarians die every year from radon caused lung cancer.
