Ontario Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development David Piccini introduced legislation earlier this week aimed at the food service sector.
Piccini said 6% of Ontario workers, over 400,000 people, are in the restaurant and hospitality industry which are mostly largely tip-reliant jobs.
This legislation he said would make rules more clear cut for employers and customers alike
The legislation, titled The Working for Workers Four Act 2023, would ban unpaid trial shifts, and ensure employers cannot deduct employee wages for customer thefts, such as a dine and dash.
