A brief update was provided at the latest Smiths Falls committee of the whole meeting by Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough on Next-Generation 911.
The Chief says the dispatching equipment is being installed Friday and training will begin November 27th.
Chesebrough outlined what NG 9-1-1 can do that the existing service can’t.
You’ll also be able to text and send photos to dispatchers, who will also be able to pinpoint the location of a call.
Chesebrough adds they were approached by Lanark County about securing what he calls a “significant in nature,” contract.
The system won’t be able to be used until the province launches it sometime next year. Our region is slated for the second quarter of 2024.
