The Township of Lanark Highlands is taking matters into their own hands.
In a media release issued Thursday, the Township said they’ve hired a contractor to demolish the three structures comprising the former Glenayr Kitten Mill at 44 George Street in Lanark.
In the release they state the property owner was instructed to demolish one and complete various steps to stabilize the other two after an assessment of the buildings deemed them dangerous in their current state.
They say after their order in September, the owner made no efforts to follow through, so the Township plans to demolish the structures as early as today (nov 24) to ensure public safety.
The owner will be invoiced for the costs of demolition at the end of the process.
