The proposed location of the extraction pit
County council received an information update last week regarding Cavanagh Construction’s proposed extraction pit in Lanark Highlands.
The proposal caused an uproar earlier this year and sprung the birth of the group The Friends of Lanark Highlands, local residents and environmental advocates in opposition to the proposal.
After the first public meeting, a Cavanagh Construction representative spoke to Lake 88 in a bid to address the raised concerns.
Lanark County Senior Planner Koren Lam highlighted the next steps in Cavanagh’s application.
Lam outlined the proposed location of the pit and some of the concerns residents have raised at previous moments during the application process.
Lanark Highlands has not made a ruling to move forward or not on the proposed pit.
Reeve Peter McLaren said they’re waiting on the revised application, which he thinks could be submitted at some point next summer, before making that call.
