Smiths Falls was successful in its delegation request with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services at next week’s ROMA conference and they intend to make full use of it.
They want to use the time to rally for an increase in funding to the Disability Support Program, as mayor Shawn Pankow says the $1,300 per month hasn’t covered the cost of living in quite some time.
They’ll be making the case that failing to act will only snowball the problem further.
Lanark County Warden Steve Fournier and community services committee chair Christa Lowry will be at the delegation providing support for the town as a sign of unity.
About 14% of Smiths Falls residents are on ODSP.
