Smiths Falls council has increased the property tax increase to 3.5% following the second draft budget presentation.
That’s a 0.6% increase from their initial projection of 2.9%.
A tough but necessary move says Councillor Jennifer Miller.
Staff managed to reduce the operating budget gap to $116,000 from $714,000, and the 3.5% rate would cover the shortfall.
Councillor Peter McKenna says they don’t make any decisions without good reason.
The budget is scheduled to be approved February 19th following a third round of revisions. See the figures in detail here.
