Smiths Falls is applying for provincial funding to have four electric vehicle chargers installed at the Youth Arena.
The EV ChargeON program provides up to 75% capped funding coverage to encourage municipalities to install car chargers.
Mayor Shawn Pankow would like this first application be the first of many.
Director of Public Works and Utilities Paul McMunn said they had more than one location on their mind at first but they couldn’t make the money work.
The all-in cost to install at all three locations came in at $760,000, so staff are moving ahead on a grant application for just the youth arena for this year.
