Smiths Falls council discussing the recommendations
Smiths Falls council approved its community grant allocations for 2024.
This year there were 31 applications, far and above the eight requests seen in each of the past two years.
That demand is what triggered a review of the process for both staff and council, says Manager of Economic Development & Tourism Julia Crowder.
A nearly five hour meeting last month had all applicants requesting at least $10,000 make their case to get a piece of the budgeted $190,000.
