Perth town council’s committee approved a Trillium Foundation grant application for $200K to refurbish the mezzanine area of the town’s arena.
As town director Cathy McNally explained, it could provide needed usable space.
With unanimous support from the council, the application sailed through.
The Perth and District Community Centre is the home of the Perth Blue Wings Junior Hockey Club, Perth Lanark Minor Hockey and the Perth Figure Skating Club.
Story by Brian Turner
With grossly insufficient parking and it being a major inconvenience to the residents who live in proximity to the arena, this building is way beyond its best-before date. 200K would serve far better if it was the foundation stone for a funding drive to rebuild and replace this building with new construction in a more sensible and accessible location. Refurbishing the mezzanine is akin to putting lipstick on a pig.
