Mississippi Mills staff have successfully completed the temporary stabilization work on the bell tower located at 38 Main Street East, known as the Dungarvon building. This crucial step ensures the safety and integrity of the structure.
Currently, staff are engaged in vibration monitoring activities to determine the necessary modifications for the temporary road closure, which remains in place as a precautionary measure.
In January, the municipality announced its decision to undertake the stabilization work themselves, opting to bill the property owner after exhausting efforts to prompt the owner to address the issue independently.
The instability of the bell tower had previously necessitated the rerouting of the Almonte Santa Claus Parade in late November, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
