Public service workers in our region are rejoicing following a ruling by Ontario’s top court that declared a contentious law that restricted pay raises for over a million public servants, unconstitutional.
Originally implemented by Ford Government, the law aimed to assist the government in erasing a deficit by limiting salary increases for the public sector to just one percent annually for three years.
In a split decision (2-1), the Court of Appeal sided with the workers, a group made up of educators, nurses, and various other essential professionals.
