With the early Spring-like weather we’ve seen, The Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists encourage us to get out and look up, and into trees to welcome back our feathered friends.
Their Ken Allison a Naturalist and bird expert told our Lynda D’Aoust things got off to an early start.
He says they are both medium distance migrants who like to come back early as long as there’s enough food to go around. He also credits their early return to climate change.
Now that said, we’ve had some cooler weather that the birds may not have been expecting upon their return. But for those that worry about them, Allison says they’re more than fine thanks to their feathers.
Bottom line is the birds that returned early will be just fine as we move through this cold spell.
Ken Allison addresses several other topics concerning birds in the area, such as population numbers and threats to local species in a wide-reaching discussion with Lynda D’Aoust. You can listen to it below.
