The 2024 Rideau Lakes budget passed by the narrowest of margins earlier this month.
A 3.5% tax rate increase was pushed through in a 5-3 vote, only because Councilor Jeff Banks, who stated earlier in the meeting he wouldn’t support the budget, voted in favour because he wanted to move forward.
A tie council vote results in a defeated motion.
Earlier in the meeting, Banks spoke to his budget philosophy when an amendment, that later failed, was proposed to increase the tax rate to 4.5% with the additional 1% headed to reserves.
The 2024 budget is just under $24.5 million, a $2.2 million increase from last year.
