Recommendation no. 66 from the jury in the Inquiry into ending Intimate Partner Violence in Ontario says that the province must Review the mandate of Probation Services.
Included must be an up-to-date risk assessment in the file, ensure that probation conditions are appropriate, and contact must be made with the survivor to inform her of the offender’s living situation, among other conditions ensuring all information is shared to benefit the safety of the victims.
Executive Director of Lanark County Interval House Erin Lee testified at the inquiry, which examined the circumstances around the 2015 femicides of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam and what can be done to prevent such a tragedy again.
Lee says recommendation 66 is all about different systems and stakeholders coming together to protect victims and survivors.
Lee says the recommendation speak at length about coming together to protect the vulnerable and eliminate threats through proper systems.
