It’s NextGen Farmer Day, on 88.1 myFM.
We are profiling Gord Tennant of New Leaf Organic Farm, just outside Perth.
Tennant started the farm about seven years ago and has been filling local farmer’s markets ever since.
And its a multigenerational effort with his son Gregor.
We asked Gord how the decision was made to be exclusively organic.
There farm is very forward thinking. It’s working towards being a self-sustaining farm through better soil management with cover crops and some soil rebuilding projects.
And he tells us they’re bringing in livestock, which will have some work to do.
The move to becoming sustainable is a continuous effort while they grow the farm.
They’re also know for giving back too. They have donated to the Table CFC and the Food Bank, and are one of the farms that supplies vegetables for the fund-raising produce boxes.
