It’s McHappy Day in Lanark and Leeds, and across the country. McDonald’s restaurants are raising money for charitoes that make difference in their communities.
Tim Carter is the owner operator of the four restaurants and is on Ottawa’s Ronald McDonald House’s Board of Directors. He tells myFM a portion of local sales go to a special cause.
That’s 10% of the profits today from McDonald’s in Perth, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Kemptville.
Carter says the house is found on the grounds of CHEO and provides an incredible service for families during a very stressful time.
The expansion he speaks of is massive, as is the price tag. Carter says they currently have 16 suites for families to stay in.
Carter adds that at McDonald’s they consider themselves forever and founding partners of the Ronald McDonald Houses.
He says the Ottawa House services 200 rural and northern communities, including some as far away as the arctic. But he points out there is a local need too.
As for the funding, the federal and provincial governments are combining to provide a little over $12 million dollars. That, combined with fundraising efforts means they are just about $1.6 million shy.
But Carter stresses the shortage of space isn’t just a problem in Ottawa, as demand is so great.
He adds that if families can’t pay the $10 per night, the fee can be waived. The important part for Ronald McDonald House is making sure the families are taken care of and are close to their kids.
We invite you to join us today at all area McDonald’s to help out. We’ll have myFM folks on site, and be broadcasting live from the Perth restaurant from 11 until noon.
