The Rideau Lakes Grassroots Group delegation last week led to rising tensions.
The citizen-led group has been openly critical about council decisions and took issue with Councillor Paula Banks calling them a “hate group,” at the May 6th meeting.
Before the delegation even took place, there was a lengthy debate on if council should even hear it.
After it was decided to let them present, Mayor Arie Hoogenboom shared his thoughts on the group, and the court of public opinion.
The mayor feels opposing opinions are fine so long as it’s in a respectful manner.
Jeff Banks feels in the past the group’s dipped more in fiction than fact.
RLGG spoke for about five minutes before stating they would not answer any questions.
A script of what spokesperson Wendy Alford said at the meeting can be found here.
We will hear from Rideau Lakes Grassroots Group later this week on 88.1 myFM.
