A recent blitz by the Perth Fire Department saw them visit close to 350 homes to check they’re smoke and CO alarms. Perth Fire Chief Trevor Choffe said the results were not as impressive as years past.
The Chief is reminding us all to check and make sure our detectors haven’t passed their expiry dates.
Choffe also says they’re focusing on education, because they could have handed out thousands in fines, something they keep as a last resort.
Chief Choffe says landlords must put the detectors in and make sure they’re up to date and working. If you are the tenant, you have some responsibility too.
You can watch for a big education push about the alarms in the coming days and weeks as Choffe and the department try their best to ensure residents are prepared and safe.
