This is speech and hearing month, and the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li is highlighting their Language Express program.
Services are free and are available from birth until school entry.
The program’s Manager, Catherine Robinson says language development starts at home, but knows no limits.
She adds that they encourage everyone to take the time this month to check that the babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in your life are on track for communication success.
Dr, Li says they can help you do that.
The website can be found at: www.language-express.ca.
The best part is if you are concerned there’s no need to wait for a doctor to make a referral for you. Robinson says it’s easy to do.
Families with concerns about hearing should talk to their family doctor or contact the Southeast Infant Hearing Program at 1-855 544-3400, ext. 3175 and press 5 for more information about hearing testing.
